26 June 2014
Appliances across the East and West area attended
Around 25 firefighters from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) dealt with a fire involving logging machinery and a large quantity of compacted timber between Crianlarich and Killin which was reported at 7am this morning (26 June).
Fire appliances from Arrochar, Bridge of Orchy, Killin, Callander and Tyndrum were mobilised to the incident and immediately surrounded the fire using four jets.
The special wildfire forestry unit from Dunblane was also in attendance.
Station Manager George Carson, who was in charge of the incident said: “Firefighters worked in extremely challenging conditions in their attempt to bring this fire, involving an area of approximately 100m x 100m in an inaccessible area, under control using water jets.
“The combination of damp and warm weather conditions had caused the compacted wood in the machinery to self heat, eventually leading to its ignition.”
Crews left the scene around 12.30pm.
