29 April 2014
SFRS crews remain at the scene in Uddingston on the outskirts of Glasgow.
Firefighters are continuing work to extinguish a fire at an industrial site in South Lanarkshire.
Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) crews were called to the incident near Broomhouse Lane in Uddingston, on the outskirts of Glasgow, around 1:45am on Tuesday (29 April).
An SFRS spokesperson said: “In response to a 999 call Operations Control in Johnstone mobilised two appliances from Clydesmill Community Fire Station, a third from Polmadie and a heavy rescue vehicle from Easterhouse.
“Crews arrived within minutes and were faced with a fire in an industrial silo, which contained approximately 100 tonnes of material.
“Firefighters have been working throughout the morning to contain and extinguish the blaze using several main water jets, and they have made good progress removing material from the silo in half-tonne batches.
“A thermal imaging camera has been in use as our crews continuously monitor the temperature within the silo.”
The incident is currently ongoing and firefighters will likely remain in attendance for some time.
