Firefighters in the Inverness area were kept busy at the weekend after being called to deal with house fires in Kiltarlity and Drumnadrochit.

The first incident was reported to Scottish Fire and Rescue Service at 8.03am on Sunday (23 March 2014).

Appliances from Beauly and Inverness were sent to respond to reports of a house fire at Belladrum Farm, Kiltarlity.

The fire was located on the ground floor of the two storey detached house. Firefighters in breathing apparatus used three main jets and one hosereel jet to extinguish the fire.

A female casualty who was within the property was taken to hospital for treatment after suffering from smoke inhalation.

Later that day, at around 2pm, SFRS were called out to respond to a house fire at Bunloit, Drumnadrochit.

One pump from Drumnadrochit and one from Fort Augustus attended the fire, which was situated within a lean-to shed attached to a house.

In addition to the appliances a water bowser was sent from Inverness. Firefighters used two hosereel jets to extinguish the fire.

Firefighters responded quickly and worked hard to prevent serious damage to the property itself.

A number of items of machinery within the shed were damaged by fire, as well as damage to the rear of a vehicle. A touring caravan was almost completely destroyed.

The effects of fire can be devastating and Scottish Fire and Rescue Service would like to remind communities that they can help protect themselves from fire by organising a free Home Fire Safety Visit.

SFRS is urging people to Join Scotland's Fight Against Fire and sign up for a visit. The service can also fit smoke alarms free of charge if your home requires them.
