Firefighters used a 10.5m ladder to access the fire in the loft space

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service last night responded to reports of a fire at the disused Old Mill Visitor Centre, Oldmills Road, Elgin.

The incident was reported to control in Aberdeen at 7.07pm and two appliances from Elgin were sent to the scene.

Upon arrival crews were faced with a fire in the loft space of the building. They used a 10.5 metre laddder in order to fight the fire in the loft space.

Firefighters in breathing apparatus used two hosereel jets to extinguish the fire. The fire was extinguished by 7.55pm and the last crew left the scene at 9.15pm.

A joint fire and police investigation will now take place to establish the cause of the blaze.
