Early morning fire in Kirkcudbright
28 January 2014
SFRS crews respond to Dumfries and Galloway incident.
At around 1:10am on Tuesday 28 January, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service’s (SFRS) Fire Control in Dumfries received a 999 call informing them of a fire within a residential block of flats in Kirkcudbright.
As a result of the call, two fire appliances were mobilised to the scene from Kirkcudbright and Gatehouse of Fleet community fire stations.
The first fire appliance arrived within minutes and crews were faced with a well-developed fire within the building.
Due to the size and nature of the blaze, the SFRS incident commander requested the attendance of additional resources.
A further two fire appliances from Castle Douglas and Dumfries community fire stations have been sent to the scene.
A spokesperson for SFRS said: “Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus sets have entered the smoke filled flats, with a number of water jets, to deal with the fire situation.
"Nine residents have been guided to a place safety out with the building”.
Scottish Fire and Rescue Service crews are currently working alongside colleagues from Police Scotland to resolve the situation.
The incident is on-going and no further information is available at this time.
