Ammonia leak at Ayrshire factory

Crews called to an industrial premises in Drongan, East Ayrshire.

Scottish Fire and Rescure Service personnel were alerted to the incident shortly after 5.45am today (15th August) following reports of a gas leak in the site's refrigeration plant.

Crews in gastight suits entered the building and successfully isolated the source of the leak.

A Technical Support Team and Environmental Protection Unit were also in attendance. Gas monitors were used to check the perimeter of the site and positive pressure ventilations systems were used to remove gas from the premises, while crews using absorbing pads and granules continued to work clearing the ammonia from the area.
