A six car pileup saw firefighters use hydraulic cutting gear to free a woman trapped inside her vehicle.

The incident took place on the eastbound M80 the Auchenkilns junction in Cumbernauld, around 4:50pm Thursday (March 28). Two appliances were sent from the town’s community fire station and crews arrived at the scene within minutes.

Firefighters immediately moved to make the vehicles safe and help those involved in the collision. Crews quickly freed the woman, who was trapped by the legs and had suffered ankle injuries.

The Fire Service personnel then passed the casualty to the care of Scottish Ambulance Service paramedics, who took her to Monklands General Hospital. Firefighters remained in attendance as work continued to make crashed vehicles and the general scene safe.
